1 Reader Protection Module

Fact: Many hacking modules are being developed that successfully attack vulnerabilities in Physical Access Control Systems.

By far, “Man in the Middle” (MitM) modules are the worst of these threats. More potent than social engineering or card cloning, as they:

cannot be feasibly prevented from implantation
are virtually untraceable pre & post deployment
can skim vital info from 1000’s of access cards
can log PIN codes & keystrokes from keypads
can replay data to grant access & unlock doors
are integral into creating ‘perfectly copied’ cards
may disable entire security systems from outside
can host remote access 24/7/365, from anywhere

THE SPIDER BLOCKER NEUTRALIZES THESE CRITICAL THREATS   –   NOW and in the FUTURE.

“Backwards-compatible” Ready to protect all existing reader protocols. (Incl. Wiegand & OSDP)
Forward-compatible & Future-proofed” Prepared to safeguard future reader data protocols.

Description

The Spider Blocker provides crucial anti-tampering protection for Access Readers, which sit vulnerably outside of secured areas.

Tampering detection is vital to hacking prevention. But an incompatibility deters security panels from even monitoring them: [Panels need 2-Wire Alarm Signals, but Readers send 1-Wire Tamper Signals*]. Due to this discrepancy, vital tamper switches are almost always left disconnected.

We resolve this signal mismatch, and deliver so much more.

The Spider Blocker provides TEN layers of critical hardware-based countermeasures that bolster the effectiveness of Access Controls.

Initially developed to prevent Wiegand hacking: The Spider Blocker is now ‘protocol-agnostic’ & can fortify ANY READER using ANY FORMAT.

Security Consultants, Systems Integrators & Consumers: Adding Spider Blockers into your BOM will mean the difference between your access readers being easily HACKABLE, versus HACKING-RESISTANT.

Securing rooms & compartmentalizing areas are key elements into mitigating risks during hostile situations.

Triggered by a panic alarm switch, one or more Spider Blocker modules can initiate hardware-driven (non logic-dependent) countermeasures that disable access readers & override unlock schedules. With an assailant’s physical access kept at bay, threats to personnel can be minimized.

  • The Spider Blocker consumes minimal power and can be typically powered from the existing Controller’s 12VDC Reader Output. Depending on the amperage requirements of your access reader, we generally recommend a current output capacity of 350mA per 12VDC Reader Port to power up both (1) Blocker and (1) Reader. If your Port cannot supply this amount of current, a dedicated power source should be utilized.
  • Each intended Access Device for protection must be equipped with a Tamper Switch. (SSP offers 3 versions)
  • In most cases, new cabling is not required as a wire can typically be freed on the existing 6 Conductor Cable.
  • Most installs use the brown wire of the reader ‘home run’ cable to drive the Red LED. However, most reader LEDs are already Red by default, and only need a signal to light the Green LED. If your reader operates in this manner: The brown wire can be re-purposed to transmit the 1-Wire Tamper Signal, from the Reader to the Spider Blocker.
  • Lock-down Feature Wiring: Connect a Normally-Open Panic Alarm Switch into the TRIG Input of the Spider Blocker. Then connect the Spider Blocker’s Relay Output #1 or #2 to bring the electronic door lock to its secured state. Panic Alarm triggering should disable the access reader and secure the doorway immediately.
